Areas of Expertise

  • An international polar scientist, Geiger focuses on the theme of getting a better look at ice, especially sea ice. Uses computer technology, remote sensing and telecommunications advances to examine ice at scales beyond the scope of human vision.
  • Long term goal is to use data gathered in these examinations to improve navigation at the polar seas, better prepare humanity for survival in polar regions and assess the impact of sea ice on the world.
  • Experience in numerous field experiments in the Arctic (areas surrounding the Bering Sea, Chukchi Sea, Fram Strait, Greenland Sea, Boreas Basin and along Norway's coast).
  • Maintains long standing relationships with the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory and the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
