  • Develops methods that make use of computer-assisted mathematical and statistical analysis of complex data from chemical instrumentation. (An area of research known as data mining in some fields, called chemometrics in chemistry and chemical engineering.)
  • Focuses on processing data to reduce background and interference effects, on the transfer of mathematical models from instrument to instrument, on fusion of data and models in chemical systems and on the estimation of uncertainty in modeling of groups.
  • Broadly skilled in instrumental analytical chemistry, especially in electrochemical analysis and electrode kinetics, and in quantitative near infrared measurement of complex mixtures.
  • Has worked with government agencies: the U.S. Army (Chemical and Biological Weapons Defense), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Has worked with industry partners: DuPont, Gore, Hercules, Astra Zeneca, Bayer HealthCare, Baxter, Smith Kline, Arco Chemical, Rohm and Haas, Biogen and others.
