- Work focuses on public horticulture (botanical gardens, arboretums, etc.). Lyons is knowledgeable about all aspects including operations, programming, collections management and preparation for careers in the field.
- Formerly directed the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, N.C., and the Virginia Tech Horticulture Gardens. He can discuss selection, use, diversity and cultivation of herbaceous ornamental plants for the cultivated landscape.
- Oversees the Longwood Graduate Program in Public Horticulture, a premier public gardens management program.
